Marilyn Baldwin's favorite
pastime as a child was making mudpies. In 1991, she discovered that the same activity is
socially acceptable for adults when she took up a pottery class. Since then, she has
happily experimented with high-fire clays and processes. Much of Marilyn's work is made
from clay slabs, which she shapes into free-form vases, bowls, and platters. She tends to
incorporate designs and textures from nature into her work and often employs an
"interactive" process with the clay , in which she controls the medium up to a
point and then allows it to seek its own final shape. This results in unique organic forms
and allows her to explore the physical limits of the clay.
Marilyn lives in the Sierra foothills of Amador County and her work is available at the
Volcano gallery in Volcano, California. |
